Norman E. Saul Travel Award

Named after KU History Emeritus Professor Norman E. Saul, these travel awards support REES graduate and undergraduate students with professional development travel grants for research or to REES-related conferences. Awards are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. While any REES-related KU student is encouraged to apply, REES MA students receive priority status. You may receive multiple awards and you may apply more than once a year. If you would like to be considered for a travel award, please use the application below. You will need the following information:

  • Travel dates
  • Location
  • Name of conference
  • Details of your involvement (if presenting a paper, provide the title)
  • Brief statement explaining your involvement with REES (e.g., presenting at Brownbags, participating in conferences/annual events, etc.) and how this trip will benefit you professionally

Requests for travel awards must be received a minimum of 6 weeks prior to your initial travel date. Awards will be based off the following rates: 

To attend a conference

In-State Rates: KUEA Mileage only after the fact.

Out-of-State Regular Location: $150

Out-of-State High-Cost Location: $200

NYC and DC Areas: $250

International Rates: N/A

To present at a conference

In-State Rates: KUEA Mileage only after the fact.

Out-of-State Regular Location: $300

Out-of-State High-Cost Location: $400

NYC and DC Areas: $500

International Rates: $500-$700
